What event should I attend if I'm brand new?
We recommend Fundamentals, our absolute beginner friendly class as your first event. You will be able to meet other new people and learn a little bit of rope to get you started. Fundamentals is run on the First Thursday and the 3rd Saturday every month.
You can find all our events here:
We also have movie nights and socials that would be perfect for new people.
What happens at a rope jam?
Usually rope jams are an unstructured place where people come to tie. You might see people suspending, tying harnesses and practicing what they have been learning in our various classes. If you would like to come and just watch people tying you are welcome to join as well. It's generally a relaxed and social environment.

"What should I wear to a class or rope jam?"
We recommend that you wear something comfortable, so that you can easily sit on the floor and move around. Most people dress casually for rope jams and classes. During classes we ask that you remain fully clothed for everyone's comfort.
A word of warning: jute ropes tend to leave rope fluff on clothing which is more visible on black clothes.
"Do I need a partner to attend?"
There are many events that you can come and meet people in the community. Here is a list of events that you don't need to come with a partner:
Fundamentals
Core Skills
Rope Labs and Open Jams
For some of these events we will encourage people to pair/group up if it makes sense for the class.
For our more advanced workshops, you can attend as an observer if you don't have a partner or don't meet the requirements for the class.
Private Bookings:
"Is the price for private classes per person?"
No, the price is per class - it's designed for two people to attend the class together.
We can accommodate extra people on request but please note that there is a surcharge of $50 per person for 2-hour classes, $70 per person for 3-hour classes. These surcharges are due on booking.
"Will someone be available to tie me during a private class?"
If you would like to get tied by us, please book our Personalised Rope Experience instead.
"What is the difference between a private class and a personalised rope experience?"
If you would like to learn how to tie rope along with a friend or partner, then our private classes are a great way to learn at your own pace and based on your interests.
Our personalised rope experiences are a way for you to try being tied by one of our experienced instructors. For the best experience, please let us know if you have any preferences and requests in advance.
"For personalised rope experiences, is the price per person?"
Yes, usually we will only tie one person during these experiences. You are welcome to bring a friend to observe if you feel more comfortable.
Gendered Events:
"I saw your event is feminist/female owned, can I still attend as a man?"
Our ethos is about having equal respect for all genders, and the majority of our events are open for all genders. As long as you can have respect for everyone, you are welcome to attend. We do have a few gender specific events like Tied Lads Club (men only) or Tied by Her (women only).
"Can I attend Tied Lads Club as a woman?"
This event is for male identifying people, if you do not identify as male please attend one of our other regular jams which are not gender specific.
We are proudly trans inclusive, so trans men and masc leaning non-binary folks are very much welcome. If you are not sure whether you fit these criteria, you are welcome to check with us.
Please note that on occasion, one of our female staff may be in attendance but we will do our best to minimise this to maintain the ambience of the event.
