About the event
Twists are one of the most visually striking elements in suspension, creating dynamic lines, asymmetry, and movement in the body. Many familiar shapes rely on twisting mechanics to achieve their distinctive look and feel.
In this workshop, we'll explore three suspension shapes/sequences that produce elegant twisted shapes using constructions that may feel familiar, while approaching the mechanics from a different angle. We'll examine how the placement of lifts, load direction, and body positioning can dramatically influence the resulting shape and rotation.
Working from common foundations including TKs, ankle and thigh cuffs, chest harnesses, and basket-style ties, we'll investigate how different suspension points can be combined to create stable, expressive twists. Along the way, we'll discuss load management, transitions, and the relationship between structure and shape with tips for safety and sustainability.
This is a hands-on workshop aimed at practitioners who are already comfortable with suspension fundamentals and wish to expand their vocabulary of shapes and understand the mechanics behind creating twists in the air.
Prerequisites:
Riggers should know at least one suspendable chest harness e.g. TK or Butterfly Harness
Familiarity with basic suspension line management
Ability to work safely in suspension with your partner
Bottoms should be comfortable communicating their experience in new suspensions
Come ready to experiment, analyse shapes, and discover new ways to create rotation and twist in your suspensions.
