About the event

Intro to Self Suspension

Curious about taking your rope practice into the air? This class is designed as a gentle introduction to the foundations of self-suspension.

We will explore the core principles that make self suspension possible: understanding load paths, creating stable uplines, managing friction, and developing body awareness while under tension.

Through guided exercises, participants will learn how to safely lift parts of their own body weight using simple structures and familiar ties.

We will start from a basic suspension and give many hints and tips on how to make it more dynamic, conserving energy when tying yourself and how to spot and be spotted for self-suspensions.

Please note that you will be expected to share a point with another class attendee and help to spot them.

You will learn:

  • The basic mechanics behind self-suspension

  • How to create and manage uplines safely and tips for which lock offs to use when self-tying

  • Body positioning and tension management, how to lift your own body

  • How to approach self-suspension progressively and responsibly

This class is suitable for people who already have basic rope handling skills and are comfortable tying foundational ties. No prior suspension experience is required.

Self-suspension can be both technically challenging and deeply rewarding — offering a new perspective on rope, movement, and control.

Come curious, patient, and ready to explore.
